Gratitude ROCKS!

It’s always been my dream to run retreats and this year, everything had finally settled into place after having a baby and moving to another country. Together with my brother, my future sister-in-law and my partner, we began our next chapter; ‘YogaFit Ibiza’. Yoga and fitness retreats designed to give some of the spirituality of holistic practice and the fun of fitness to our guests in the healing and very special island of Ibiza.
When the time came to fill our guests’ goodie-bags I wanted to give my April retreat guests a gift that would remind them of their time here in Ibiza. I didn’t have the budget to spend lots, but wanted to give them something special that really came from my heart.
I had been reading the ‘The Secret’ by Rhonda Byrne (again!). In it a guy called Lee Brower talks about having a little rock in his pocket and deciding that every time he touched it he would think of something he was grateful for. I believe that a grateful attitude helps you realise and be thankful for what you have and in turn helping us to become happier and ultimately the best possible version of ourselves. I’ve been working on cultivating the habit of being grateful in our family life in Ibiza and for me, it’s one of the most important things I want to pass on to our one year old son, Hercules. In a conversation with Oprah, Eckhart Tolle, the author of The Power of Now, described gratitude as an energy field, which vibrates with your gratitude and towards you more things to be grateful for. Another habit forming suggestion from the same interview is to keep a gratitude diary, listing three things that you are grateful for every day before going to sleep (I’m trying but I get to the first thing and I fall asleep, exhausted by Hercules!).
All of this meant that I had gratitude on the brain when I was filling the goodie-bags for our guests. I decided to give everyone the prettiest pebbles I could find. Those who didn’t get one in a goodie-bag were given one at our first sunset yoga class and together we followed a little meditation similar to the one in the video below;
The thing is, the gift isn’t really the rock, that’s just a reminder, like a knotted handkerchief. The real gift is the beginning of a culture of gratitude in your life, remembering to remember and be grateful for all that you have; the uplifting feelings of positivity, happiness and joy coursing through us when we give thanks.
I’m grateful for my family and our life in Ibiza, I’m grateful for my wonderful retreat guests and I’m grateful for my little gratitude rock…
